FDTL is part of the subject strand of the Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) in Northern Ireland. Subject areas in Health Sciences and Practice were nominated in phase four of the programme. Sixteen Health Science related projects were awarded 3 years funding commencing January 2003.

The FDTL4 programme aims to stimulate developments in learning and teaching and secure the widest possible involvement of institutions in the take-up and implementation of good practice.
